Title: Special Events Manager
Department: Development and Marketing
Job Type: Employee, exempt
Job Status: Part- time, flexible schedule
Reports to: Director of Development & Marketing

Overall Responsibilities: The Special Events Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Nature Center at Shaker Lakes' signature fundraising, family and donor recognition events. Duties include planning, budgeting, marketing, staffing, execution, and follow-up of approximately 10 events of varying size per year.

Primary Duties:
- Conceptualize and execute special events that align with Nature Center's mission and will raise funds and/or strengthen relationships for the organization.
- Work with the education and facilities/land resource staffs to develop compelling family activities that engage the community.
- Work with Volunteer Coordinator to recruit volunteers to serve on planning committees and volunteer for signature events.
- Serve as primary Nature Center contact for committee volunteers and event chairpersons. - Supervise consultants and volunteers as required.
- Oversee all logistics and provide on-site management for all events.
- Work with other Development and Marketing Staff to solicit corporate sponsorships, silent auction items, and in-kind donations.
- Work with Marketing Director to ensure that events are expertly marketed.
- Coordinate all post-event follow-up, acknowledgment and evaluation.
- Create and monitor budget and projected revenue for all events.
- Create event reports for Development Director, Executive Director, and Board of Directors as needed.
- Engage the Board of Directors in the event planning process as appropriate.
- Stay current in the development field and practice within the AFP Code of Ethics.

Other Duties:
- Assist in other development activities as needed.
- Contribute to the writing and editing of the Nature Center's newsletter as related to special events.
- Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:
- Four-year degree
- Minimum of two years of experience in special event planning (five years preferred)
- Excellent interpersonal skills/ability to work with a wide variety of personalities
- Ability to establish and build relationships for the Nature Center
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to organize, prioritize, adapt to change, and handle multiple projects
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Experience working within an organizational structure and with both internal and external people
- Ability to think creatively and to market the Nature Center's needs effectively
- Big picture thinker with ability to manage multiple details
- Ability to develop plans and timelines and follow through to completion
- Computer proficiency in Word, Excel and other Microsoft applications
- Mastery of internet and non-internet research tools
- High motivation and resourcefulness
- Commitment to the Nature Center mission, principles and values

Compensation:
Commensurate with experience and organizational budget.
Flexible schedule.
