Within the framework of the Mission and the Strategic Plan, the Marketing Manager position consists of all aspects of Marketing and Communications, Development and Technology.
PRIMARY ACTIVITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Planning
• Work with newsletter editor, supervisor, and various staff and community members to develop a low-budget, effective, and creative annual marketing plan for Center’s programs and events.
• Review and implement appropriate recommendations from most recent communications audit.
Design
• Episodic Program/ Special Event Fliers
• Center Brochures (OAC, Camp, B-Day, Rental)
• Special Event Booklets (Plant Sale, Benefit Program) .
Rookery Newsletter
Work with newsletter editor to ensure Rookery is high quality, accurate, and distributed in a timely manner.
Media & Public Relations
• Field calls from media
• Write and distribute press releases to media
• Update media contact list
• Compile listings report.
Technology
• Serve as organization’s web master by creating and updating content
• Create an distribute monthly e-mail blasts to constituents
• E-mail electronic Rookery newsletter to interested members.
Supervisory
Train, schedule, and develop work plans for marketing/PR interns and volunteers.
Written Communications
Edit and re-write submitted copy to ensure ‘voice’ is consistent, accurate, and compelling.
Other
Negotiate with vendors to ensure high quality, timely delivery, and fair pricing.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Exceptional writing and editing skills
• 1-2 years marketing/ PR experience preferably in a non-profit organization
• Understanding of formal and informal marketing practices
• Demonstrated proficiency in the design and development of marketing collateral
• Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Proficient with both a Mac and PC platforms and familiar with
• Familiarity with design software including Photoshop, InDesign, QuarkXPress, Dreamweaver
• Creative problem-solver that has a ‘can-do’ attitude
• Must play nicely with others.
Position is a full time, salaried position. Compensation is based on experience and includes an excellent benefits package that incorporates a 403b match, medical/ dental insurance, flexible scheduling, casual work environment, and generous paid time-off.

General Description
The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, a 501(c)(3) non-profit founded in 1966 and located in the historic Shaker Parklands of Cleveland’s eastern inner-ring suburbs, seeks a creative and committed Seasonal Naturalist to work with the Education Director and staff to carry out its educational program goals. Information about the Nature Center’s mission, vision, strategic plan, programs, staff, board, and history can be found at www.shakerlakes.org. The successful candidate will work with fellow staff naturalists presenting NCSL designed curricula and outdoor experiences to area school children attending field trips, outdoor adventure camps and classes for children, nature-themed programs including nature walks and informal lectures for families and adults and other community programming as needed and scheduled. This is an ideal opportunity for a starting naturalist seeking to develop their skills in a dynamic environment. The position is 20-40 hours/week (April-November), including some weekend and evening hours.
Compensation and Start Date
$12-14/hour, based on experience and qualifications. Start date as soon possible.
Responsibilities:
1. Present Nature Center education programs to key audiences, including area schoolchildren, families, adults, preschool children and campers
2. Stay current and work collaboratively with all Nature Center staff to ensure excellence and maintain continuous improvement of Nature Center at Shaker Lakes curricula and programs
3. Work effectively with teachers and other clients, volunteers and the public in the presentation of Nature Center programs and events
4. Maintain good humor and apply professional, common-sense solutions to everyday challenges
5. Attend Board and Staff meetings and “Signature Events”
6. Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
• Minimum1year teaching experience
• College degree in Environmental Education, Environmental Studies or related science/natural resource field
• Effective public speaker
• Creative thinker and active outdoors-person
• Practices environmental stewardship
• Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of personalities
• Strong organizational skills, ability to multi-task, adapt to change, to work independently, to prioritize effectively
• CPR/1st Aid, Wilderness First Responder, Lifeguard Training and/or Leave No Trace Training preferred
